Prologue:
It was midnight at the Heroes' Guild. The stars shone bright over top the large grounds and the apprentices and mentors all were asleep. Only the passing guards for that night made any movements. The garden, where the vegetables were grown, was bathed in the dim moonlight.
Suddenly, a bright flash broke into the darkness, bathing everything around the garden with blinding light. The Guild Master, who was passing on his own rounds, was right next to the gardens when the light flashed. The light had startled him at first, but as it died down he seemed to be transfixed on something. Two figures lay motionless in the garden's plants. A boy of what looked like the age of seventeen and a mixed breed hound dog, both, were sleeping and unmoving in the night.
At first sight, the Guild Master could see these two beings weren't from anywhere around here. Thy boy, his spiky brown hair making him look as if he'd been scared, wore a t-shirt and a pair of khaki colored cargo pants. His dog had on a blue collar. The Guild Master stepped forwards for the young boy, but suddenly he stopped. The boy was awaking on his own. Bright green eyes opened to the world, tired and half open. A hand reached up to the boy's face as the other pushed off the ground to set him up. He didn't seem to be injured but he did look frazzled by the sight of his dog.
Immediately, arms lunged out and pulled the hound to his side. "Blue, wake up," he said, softly. There's such care in his voice, the Guild Master thought. But, he shook the thoughts away when the dog didn't move. It seemed the dog had the injuries. Though unnoticed before, no it was clear the hound mix was bleeding. Blood had pooled around his chest and side. The boy leaned down, tears falling down his cheeks. "Blue……wake up……." he whispered again. But, still, the dog didn't move.
At this growing dilemma, the Guild Master set right to work. He jolted forward to the boy's side. "Hello, young man. Please tell me your name. I can help your dog here. I'm the Guild Master in this place. What is your dog's name? Blue, was it?"
The boy had bee startled by the Guild Master's first words, but the calm tone from the man by him relaxed him quite a bit. "His name is Blue. I'm Mizutai," he said.
The Guild Master nodded. "Okay, Mizutail. You must go hide right away. Head into the trees. You're not supposed to be here. As for Blue, I'll get the caretaker of animals. Your dog will live in his care." A soothing smile crossed his face and he held his hand out. He gave Mizutai a small pocket knife. "Keep this safe and hidden." He "Hurry up."
Mizutai nodded, though he was reluctant to leave his dog's side. "Take care of him. He's my only and best friend," he said. He stood up and bolted into the forest.
As Mizutai took off, the Guild Master stood up. He headed for a small building on the grounds. With a small knock, he let himself in. Another man sat inside, a bit startled by the sudden coming of the Guild Master. "Trouble Hawthorn. There's a dog in immediate need of help. Follow me, he's in the garden."
Hawthorn grabbed a back from the table next to him and was at the Guild Master's side in a second. He was lead off into the dim lighted night to the gardens. Blue was finally safe and Mizutai was hidden well in the forest on the Guild's grounds.
